Grossarl is a paradise for backcountry ski tours. There are places with various degrees of difficulty off of the main slopes. 

Many peaks in the Ellmau valley are popular for backcountry skiing, for example the Filzmooshörndl or the Loosbühel. Backcountry skiing involves skiing off ski area. One must know the dangers, especially the avalanche zones. The right avalanche equipment with a transponder is necessary. 

The tourist association in Grossarl and the Grossarl backcountry ski specialists have created guide book for the ten most beautiful tours in the valley. 

The guide includes a detailed description of the tours and costs € 2.50 at the Grossarl tourist office.
